How to connect the Challenger 288 to a 2-wire leased line in asynchronous mode?

Please make sure that your Challenger 288 version is V2.07, or newer. The following steps will show you how to set your modem into "simulated 2-wire leased line for asynchronous protocol". Configurations are as follows
1.
he default mode for the Challenger 288 is command mode. If it does not accept AT commands then press the "RST" key while holding down the V/D key. This should give you a "co" on the LED display, which means the modem has switched to "Command" mode.
2. Use the terminal program to set your modem's AT command set to: AT&FN0%G0S7=30S37=17&L1&W
3.
Set the O/A key on the front panel of the modem -- ANSWER MODEM if it's pressed, ORIGINATE MODE if it's released.
4.. Press the "RST" key while holding down the V/D key again, and the LED will display "du". This means the modem has switched to "Dumb" mode.
5. Release the V/D key, and the modem will begin to handshake automatically.
