that your Challenger 288 version is V2.07,
or newer. The following
steps will show you how to set your modem into "simulated
2-wire leased line for asynchronous protocol".
Configurations are as follows |

he default mode
for the Challenger 288 is command mode. If
it does not accept
AT commands then press the "RST" key
while holding down the V/D key. This should
give you a "co" on the LED display,
which means the modem has switched to "Command" mode. |

Use the terminal program
to set your modem's AT command set to: AT&FN0%G0S7=30S37=17&L1&W |

Set the O/A key on the front panel of the
modem -- ANSWER MODEM if it's pressed, ORIGINATE
MODE if it's released. |

Press the "RST" key while holding
down the V/D key again, and the LED will display "du".
This means the modem has switched to "Dumb" mode. |

Release the V/D key, and the modem will begin
to handshake automatically. |
